The admissions office is using campus connect to credit volunteers with their hours. You must email Lucy to confirm your help for this opportunity, this will ensure we have the right amount of volunteers. Lucy will send out calendar invites to those selected for these virtual interview day breakout sessions. These sessions are about 30 minutes long and student run. If you are interested in moderating please respond to this opportunity and also email Lucy (lconaway@greenvillemed.sc.edu) to let her know of your interest. The moderator will lead the session (see description of moderator expectations below). The breakout session is a chance for interviewing applicants to ask questions of our current students. They are the highlight of our interview day for the applicants, thank you for considering.
Here is what we ask of a moderator:
· Be early, sign into the virtual session at 4:00 pm
· Lead brief introductions of volunteers (have current students say their name, where they are from, year in medical school, briefly state any campus involvement/interest groups. There is not enough time to have applicants introduce themselves)
· Remind applicants our preferred way of asking questions is to use the “raise hand feature”
· They learned how to do this earlier in the day (go to the smiley face with the plus size and the raise hand is at the top, above the reactions). They can lower the hand when they have asked their question.
· We got feedback from moderators that this was preferred to avoid people talking over one another
· Facilitate conversation when needed
· As moderator you have the ability to set the tone, we encourage you to engage, make everyone feel welcome, and remember – you are a panelist too, so please participate in responding as well
· Monitor chat box
· Ensure all questions are answered
· Watch the time to prepare to close out the session at 4:35pm, a representative from Student Affairs will likely say the final goodbye to the group. If no staff pops on by 4:36pm, go ahead and give closing remarks to the group
· Closing remarks: thank them for attending, let them know they can direct any questions to Lucy at lconaway@greenvillemed.sc.edu. They are welcome to email their thank you notes to Lucy, this is not required but some may wonder the best method of doing so
Record participation of current students who attended (taking a screenshot of the participant list might be a quick & easy way to do this). We will ask you to provide this when you fill out the form below. You can have all names shown on the video squares by going to the “layout” option (usually around the top right of the screen, see attached document for visual instructions), go down to video options, and select show all names. The names should all then be displayed at the bottom of each person’s square.
