Who We Are

Alpha Omega Alpha (ΑΩΑ) is the national honor medical society that recognizes and fosters excellence in scholarship, leadership, professionalism, service, and the promotion of humanism in medicine. Since its founding in 1902, AΩA has upheld the belief that the true measure of a physician goes beyond academic achievement—encompassing character, compassion, and a commitment to advancing the medical profession.

At the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, our AΩA chapter seeks to uplift these ideals by honoring students who not only excel academically, but who also demonstrate integrity, selfless service, and dedication to improving the health and well-being of their communities.

Membership in AΩA is a lifelong distinction and an opportunity to join a network of physician-leaders who are shaping the future of medicine. Students become eligible for nomination and application during their third year of medical school.

What We Do

Our chapter lives out the AΩA mission through meaningful service, mentorship, and leadership development:

Community Service Projects: We lead regular volunteer efforts, including providing monthly healthy home-cooked meals and wellness education to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Our projects integrate principles of lifestyle medicine and compassionate care to meet community needs.

Medical Student Mentorship & Leadership: AΩA members mentor junior students and model professionalism, academic excellence, and service leadership in both clinical and community settings.

Recognition of Excellence: We honor outstanding students, residents, and faculty who exemplify AΩA values through annual inductions and awards.

Participation in AΩA-sponsored events not only benefits the community—it allows all students to engage with the values that define exceptional physicians. We invite you to serve with us and consider applying for membership during your third year.
