We couldn’t provide this important education without your support. KIND of the Upstate is a nonprofit located in Greenville, SC. KIND stands for Kids Including and Nurturing Disabilities. KIND hosts "KIND Days" during which we teach students about kindness, inclusion and disabilities. We hope you can join us for a wonderful morning session with students. When signing up, you may choose to serve as either a Leader or a Helper in the classroom. Leaders will guide the class through the provided lesson plan. Whether you are a first time volunteer or a returning one, anyone can be a leader! Join our brief Zoom session to learn everything you need to feel confident stepping into the role. Participation is encouraged but not required. It is also a good chance for potential volunteers to learn more about a KIND Day run. There is no requirement to become a leader if you attend this zoom informational session. For more information, contact: KindDay@kindoftheupstate.org Helpers will assist the Leader in carrying out the activities and supporting the students. If you would like to request a specific teacher’s classroom, please include that in the comment box when you sign up. While we do our best to honor requests, we cannot guarantee placement in a particular classroom. As KIND Day approaches, you will receive an email with all the details you’ll need about helping in the classroom. We are continuously adding schools and dates, so check back regularly. If you have any questions, please reach out to Rebecca Huntington at KindDay@kindoftheupstate.org. Reminder: Complete the IDD in Healthcare course on our main page to be able to receive service learning credit for this event, respond to this event on Campus Connect, as well as sign up through the link above! Thank you all for helping Best Buddies support our fellow community organizations! Volunteer: Mauldin Miracle League - Game 7We are joining the Mauldin Miracle League at Sunset Park to help facilitate baseball games for our Greenville IDD athletes. There are around 6 total teams on each of those Saturdays and each game will last approximately an hour. There is a short orientation at 8:30 am to go over guidelines and who MML is, with baseball play from 9 am-12 PM. You will be paired with a player or multiple and will help them hit off the tee, run the bases, field the ball, throw the ball, the whole 9 yards so make the most out of it! Again, please make sure you RSVP to each event you will be attending so we can track your hours. You do not need to fill out anything else other than this RSVP, and then show up ready to have some fun with your matched friends! I (Allie Hyde) will be sending an email to the coordinator each Wednesday with a headcount so if you need to drop last minute please text me (7046892236) so I can let the volunteer coordinator know! ***REMINDER: To continue receiving service learning hours through Best Buddies, you MUST complete the 4 hour online training course located here. Volunteer: Buddy Match ProcessThis opportunity is to outline the process of matching in a one-on-one friendship. Step 1 is to fill out our membership application: www.bestbuddies.org/join. This step is for everyone, regardless of if you want to be matched or not. If you have already filled out a membership application, you do not need to fill out another form. Not sure if you have already filled out an application, just ask the Best Buddies program manager at bayleegoode@bestbuddies.org. Step 2 is to fill out a background check. This step is for everyone (with or without IDD) regardless of if you want to be matched or not. Once you fill out your membership application, you will receive an email from Sterling Volunteers. Please fill out the background check and allow a week or two for it to come back. Unfortunately, we cannot accept a passed background check from any other site, it must go through our system. Thank you for your understanding. Step 3 is to fill out our match survey: Click here for match survey! This is for us to get to know you a little better and make sure we match you with the right person! We may even have a quick call to ask you some follow up questions! You do not have to be matched to be a part of Best Buddies, but it is kind of the best part. Step 4 is to wait to be matched with the right person! We match people based on mutual interest so you may not be matched right away but it will be worth the wait! Reach out to bayleegoode@bestbuddies.org with any questions! Reminder: Complete the IDD in Healthcare course on our main page to be able to receive service learning credit for this event!
