Thank you for your willingness to help with KIND! We couldn’t provide this important education without your support. 

KIND of the Upstate is a nonprofit located in Greenville, SC. KIND stands for Kids Including and Nurturing Disabilities. KIND hosts "KIND Days" during which we teach students about kindness, inclusion and disabilities. We read a book together as a class, discuss disabilities, recite and sign a kindness pledge, and participate in a writing or drawing activity. We hope you can join us for a wonderful morning session with students.

When signing up, you may choose to serve as either a Leader or a Helper in the classroom.

Leaders will guide the class through the provided lesson plan.

Whether you are a first time volunteer or a returning one, anyone can be a leader! Join our brief Zoom session to learn everything you need to feel confident stepping into the role. Participation is encouraged but not required. It is also a good chance for potential volunteers to learn more about a KIND Day run. There is no requirement to become a leader if you attend this zoom informational session. For more information, contact: KindDay@kindoftheupstate.org 

Helpers will assist the Leader in carrying out the activities and supporting the students.

If you would like to request a specific teacher’s classroom, please include that in the comment box when you sign up. While we do our best to honor requests, we cannot guarantee placement in a particular classroom.

We have a great opportunity for students to gain valuable knowledge about treating patients in the IDD community. Through the link below, students can complete this 4 hour training course and gain a cme credit as long as the survey is also completed at the end of the course. This course is free for medical students and does not require any payment whatsoever. If you are having trouble accessing the course for free, please reach out to exec and we can help get you the course at no cost. Please respond to this post, submit your hours when you have completed the course, and email your course certificate to amhyde@email.sc.edu and zverdin@email.sc.edu. We can not approve your hours unless you submit them!!

This opportunity is to outline the process of matching in a one-on-one friendship. 

Step 1 is to fill out our membership application: www.bestbuddies.org/join. This step is for everyone, regardless of if you want to be matched or not. If you have already filled out a membership application, you do not need to fill out another form. Not sure if you have already filled out an application, just ask the Best Buddies program manager at bayleegoode@bestbuddies.org.

Step 2 is to fill out a background check. This step is for everyone (with or without IDD) regardless of if you want to be matched or not. Once you fill out your membership application, you will receive an email from Sterling Volunteers. Please fill out the background check and allow a week or two for it to come back. Unfortunately, we cannot accept a passed background check from any other site, it must go through our system. Thank you for your understanding.  

Step 3 is to fill out our match survey: Click here for match survey! This is for us to get to know you a little better and make sure we match you with the right person! We may even have a quick call to ask you some follow up questions!   You do not have to be matched to be a part of Best Buddies, but it is kind of the best part.  

Step 4 is to wait to be matched with the right person! We match people based on mutual interest so you may not be matched right away but it will be worth the wait!   Reach out to bayleegoode@bestbuddies.org with any questions!
