You can also sign up for the afternoon, if you'd like to do both! Thank you for choosing to spend your Saturday with us! Meeting of the Minds (MOTM), hosted annually by SNMA, is a one-day conference that brings together medical students, physicians, and faculty/staff to motivate and inspire high school and pre-medical students who may lack the resources and mentorship needed to have a successful medical school application cycle and begin their journey in medicine. We hope that each high school and pre- medical student gains exposure to several specialties in medicine and meaningful mentorship. We look forward to having you be a part of this great event!Date: April 18, 2026Time: 7:30am - 5pm If you have any questions, please reach out to Marcus Schlueter, M1 (Marcusis@email.sc.edu). Volunteer: Mauldin Miracle - BaseballWe will have 7 Saturday dates (weather permitting) available to sign up for in the remainder of the 2026 Spring semester. Please respond individually to each opportunity if you plan on attending multiple events. We are joining the Mauldin Miracle League at Sunset Park to help facilitate baseball games for our Greenville IDD athletes - around 6 total teams on each of those Saturdays we volunteer. Each game will last approximately an hour, so the current timestamp for this event will be from 8:30 am-12 pm with some flexibility. There is a short orientation at 8:30 am to go over guidelines and who MML is, with baseball play from 9 am-12 pm. You will most likely be paired with a player from one of the teams playing during the hour (some groups might have 2 buddies to 1 member or 1 to 2, etc.) and you will help them hit off the tee, run the bases, field the ball, throw the ball, the whole 9 yards so make the most out of it! Again, please make sure you RSVP to each event you will be attending so we can track your hours. You do not need to fill out anything else other than this RSVP on CC, and then show up ready to have some fun with your matched friends! ***REMINDER: To continue receiving service learning hours through Best Buddies, you MUST complete the 4 hour online training course located here. More details regarding this are posted under an opportunity on our page. Once completed, those 4 hours count as well.*** Organization: Best Buddies ( IPM/SL) We will have 7 Saturday dates (weather permitting) available to sign up for in the remainder of the 2026 Spring semester. Volunteer: Buddy Match ProcessThis opportunity is to outline the process of matching in a one-on-one friendship. Step 1 is to fill out our membership application: www.bestbuddies.org/join. This step is for everyone, regardless of if you want to be matched or not. If you have already filled out a membership application, you do not need to fill out another form. Not sure if you have already filled out an application, just ask the Best Buddies program manager at bayleegoode@bestbuddies.org. Step 2 is to fill out a background check. This step is for everyone (with or without IDD) regardless of if you want to be matched or not. Once you fill out your membership application, you will receive an email from Sterling Volunteers. Please fill out the background check and allow a week or two for it to come back. Unfortunately, we cannot accept a passed background check from any other site, it must go through our system. Thank you for your understanding. Step 3 is to fill out our match survey: Click here for match survey! This is for us to get to know you a little better and make sure we match you with the right person! We may even have a quick call to ask you some follow up questions! You do not have to be matched to be a part of Best Buddies, but it is kind of the best part. Step 4 is to wait to be matched with the right person! We match people based on mutual interest so you may not be matched right away but it will be worth the wait! Reach out to bayleegoode@bestbuddies.org with any questions! Volunteer: Woodmont High School MentorshipThis is a new program so we may do a bit of trial and error this year! At minimum you’ll be signing up to be available via email to a Woodmont High school student who is interested in health care (most of these students will be part of their school’s Health Care Club, so they have shown interest in health care as a profession). Your job will be to answer their questions about medical school, including details of your own personal journey, and to provide advice about potential activities, whether volunteer, extracurricular, shadowing, etc. that are appropriate for this stage of their journey into medicine, as well as advice for activities to participate in during their college years that would be beneficial to someone who eventually wants to apply to medical school. There may also be opportunities to be a part of Q&A panels (virtual or in-person), present a lecture on a healthcare topic, demonstrate basic EMT skills, and provide campus tours. Our goal is to foster interest and excitement amongst these students. Woodmont is in one of the more rural areas of Greenville County and has previously not sent many students on to be doctors. We’d love to encourage these students to dream about the possibility of becoming MDs, and hopefully some future USCSOMG grads! Volunteer: Tutoring at Tanglewood Middle SchoolI teach the AVID class at Tanglewood Middle School in Greenville. This is a new curriculum which encourages our students toward higher education after high school graduation. We're searching for college students willing to help guide our students during weekly structured tutoring sessions. This will develop agency in our students as they see real world examples of college readiness from yourselves.
We're able to take students from any degree path, organization, or background. The big requirement is they obviously need to pass the district mandated background check. The commitment level would be every Thursday of the month at maximum. We can work with students who can't make every week of the month as long as we can coordinate a consistent schedule, such as the first 2 Thursdays of every month. Consistency is preferred over making every week one month & none the next.
If interested, contact
