We will work as a class to craft hand written letters to Seniors living alone or Seniors entering rehabilitation or long term care. These letters will serve as a means of connection to combat social isolation in the Upstate, and our partners include Meals on Wheels and The Woodlands at Furman University.

Alternatively, letters can be written to the SC State Legislature to advocate for the needs of Seniors in our state. This will be done after researching the specific needs as expressed by the  SC Dept. on Aging.

Volunteering at the Taylors Free Medical Clinic

Walk with a Future Doc is a walking program for everyone interested in taking steps for a healthier lifestyle. You’ll take a few minutes to learn about a current health topic from a healthcare provider and medical student, then spend the rest of the hour enjoying a healthy walk and fun conversation. It’s a great way to get out, get active, and enjoy all the benefits that come from walking. Every 3rd Saturday of every month!

I educate who are studying to take the GED science exam. I relate the content that they are learning back to their own health as I believe it is important to grow their health literacy while growing their general education.

Mentoring for Clemson undergrads to include one-on-one mentoring meetings, lectures/tours given throughout the semester, application help session, etc. 

Assisting residents of Phoenix Center with medication reconciliation. Helping Phoenix Center organize medications. 

Please log this hour under your respective IPM tab as soon as you complete the handwashing training and the online training course. This hour will NOT be approved until you work your first volunteer training shift! But go ahead and log it as soon as you complete it so you don't forget and it will be approved later by the IPM faculty!

Premedical Youth immersion camp for Upstate South Carolina High School Students

Kleats for Kids is an initiative dedicated to providing new and gently used sports equipment to children and schools in underserved communities. By ensuring every child has access to the gear they need, we empower young athletes to stay active and pursue their passions without financial barriers. Beyond donations, we also promote healthy living by educating kids and families on the importance of nutrition and an active lifestyle. Together, we’re building healthier, happier communities through the power of sports and education.

This opportunity is specifically for MOTM subcommittee members.

Use this opportunity to track the amount of time you have spent volunteering with your hospice patients. 

This opportunity is for the online asynchronous portion of Interim Hospice Volunteer training.

Collaborate on an educational healthy holiday guide for residents of Safe Harbor and collect needed medical supplies for the shelter.

This opportunity is for people who are volunteers through the Child Life Program at Prisma Health Children's Hospital. You must sign up for volunteering through the Child Life website (https://prismahealthchildrens.org/ways-to-help/volunteer)

This can be used as service learning for IPM, as long as you write a written reflection on how your experience will work to improve the health of your patients. This reflection should be sent to Dr. Springhart.

Partner with an immigrant family who has a child with special healthcare needs (attend their clinic, assist with phone calls, check ins, etc.) Develop educational materials with Juntos Student Leadership to support health literacy and health systems navigation (such as developing videos or filling prescriptions, calling clinics after hours, etc.)
